I have been working super hard at promoting my new band this last week or so with a flier with collage and photographs I made and just random fun photo projects. I also plan to work on a large scale photo collage with the Tin can ale house in san Diego as part of their re-grandopening. Lots going on!

At Houston airport due to some awesome delays. I have a photo in my phone library of this poor stuffed animal dinosaur that committed suicide and was hung on a clothing line in someones backyard in Austin.
Somehow it completly conveys my feelings of being standed in Houston.

I stumbled upon an awesome party at the very end of the sxsw music festival yesterday and was able to join in a very large all girl drumming improv band! I got to play with some awesome Japanese ladies from a sweet band called, Fai Wai? Hope I got that right:)

wow oh wow! seriously!! i have been the busiest bee ever and I am so happy! I had a trip to new york and that was something and then after terrible delays I finally made it home in time to leave again and then back to play some shows. So, I have been dedicating more and more time to my one-woman band Smile Now Cry Later. I play drums and I sing! It is super fun and I am enjoying it tons. I came back to my town and played a show in the San Diego Museum of Art and then my birthday party show and then did an interview for San Diego Citybeat Magazine and a new photo for that and then did another show a couple of days later...phew! so much! then i have been gearing up and getting ready for my husband and I to leave to SxSw and i did some fun photos for him and his new remix cd cover art and a new t-shirt! wow!! So much! i also shot some new photos of myself for my band today and am about to leave in a day to SxSw! how very busy and exciting.

I am hoping to shoot more for my band and for a new art idea I have in the works...stay tuned:)

Woke up late after a ompletly hilarious glam rock, cutting, bleeding, spitting, sweating show. It felt like a parody of a parody.

Went to a sweet brunch at a brooklyn label. Had tofu potatoes and took a walk and shopped at the dollar stores and toy stores for props.

Someone threw out a ladder with real apples glued to it. I don't know why they were doing into creating this project and throwing it away. Seems like a keeper.

I arrived early crack of dawn early into jfk airport and met my good friend kitty. We walked and I got to feel snow falling on me super thick, for the first time! It was really exciting an not as cold as I imagined it would be. I took the longest of naps and now am editing photos for RAFTERS promo photos for ho's upcoming album, Animal Feelings. Not sure what new York will bring, but here is hoping for something good!

I am leaving to do an art resdidency in New York in a couple of days and I am beyond thrilled! I have been ver worried though about the climate differnece and am crossing my fingers that I will survive! So, I have been preparing for this trip by taking long walks here in San Diego. I know I am in for a heap of weather changes, but I thought it might help.

Happy new year! We are the future! I swore flying cars would be around by now, but I guess not. Still holding out for a Hover board. I have been so busy with my band that I have neglected my blog. Yikes! I have made some flyers and photos for my band and had some awesome art shows that I never posted, but will this week. I am also leaving on a two month art residency in new york. I am thrilled and nervous. I will be shooting constantly and I am ready and happy for it! I can not wait. Getting back on track

hellllllllllo dudes and dudettes, i have been missing in action on my blog....not good. ah well, my to do list is never ending over here, but excited to get back on track now that i have some free time. I have been working on photos for my upcoming show with Commune Wednesday's. I am very excited to take part in this event that occurs monthly in different venues around San Diego, CA. It is a group show of art, crafts and music all supported by the good folks at Commune Wednesdays. I am designing a limited edition flier and shirt for the event (which I am super duper excited about!) and I will be making a new series for the event. The show is August 26th at 9pm!

Also, I just wrote a music track for an upcoming MAC cosmetics web ad that will be airing very soon!!! How exciting!! You can hear me singy sing sing! Will post as soon as I see it up!

Heart 2 Heart was great fun. I sang lead for the first time in many years in a new band which consisted of my fiance and myself. Seriously...best band I have EVER been in. No other band I have ever done anything with compares anywhere near to as much fun and awesomeness that was Smile now, cry later! I am excited to start recording and learning songs and performing. We had only 3 practices (yikes), but were able to pull of 4 covers really well. We did...

The Perfect Bathing Suit

So, I have recently added swimming to my extracurricular activities and am getting more and more serious about it. I invested in some really nice goggles and a swim cap, but have been hesitating to buy the bathing suit. Mostly, I think it is because I hate trying on bathing suits. The fluorescent lighting added to the cramped enclosed and claustrophobic four walls they call fitting rooms keep me from ever wanting to try one on. Alas, I know I must. ahh.

I saw this bathing suit at one of my favorite discount designer stores and loved it at first sight. Then, of course like any thrifty shopper I looked at the price tag and much to my surprise I found this...

Celebrate Good Times

c'mon. I saw these really amazing copper pinatas in a mall yesterday and I had to photograph them. It is seriously some of the most elaborate mall art I have ever seen. This mall manages to combine Mexican fine art w/ kitschy mall rides. I love it. It is hard to know what they are going for though. I never would have come up with putting 25 cent plastic pony rides with copper artisan art...I would like to meet the person who did.

New Art SHOW!!

K, so I have been trying to figure out the best time to have a new art show and well...really there never really is a great time, so I thought I would just set one up and give myself a deadline. We'll see how great that works! yikes! So, I have contacted the same place I had a show last time here in San Diego, CA and looks like April 30 is a GO! I still have to confirm and hope that it does work out. I have yet to produce any photos for this venture, but will get my ass into fast forward to get this production underway. I have also been tinkering with finally starting up my own band...Might happen for this show. More news to come!

Ahhh....I am home to my sunny happy land and it feels oh so good. I love going on trips and traveling, but there is no feeling like the one you get when you get home and lay down on your own bed. So, I went on tour with my fiance and it was awesome. Short and sweet. It was great to see kids out there dancing to his tunes. I shot some show shots, but i am not posting those today. I still have to go through my memory cards. blah. I wish i could telepathically send the images i see and make into my computer. that would save me a LOT of time. Let me know if you come up with that invention.

Don't Stop Believin'

I was surprised with a birthday weekend in Las Vegas and was unable to keep up the love posts. I got to see the BEST Prince cover band, cirque de soleil, the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower as well as a water show, played black jack for the first time and won...then lost it all, attempted sky diving but got rained out, ate crepes as well as vegan red velvet cake (also for the first time). All in all, an awesome weekend and now I would like to finish those up and also take a moment to say thank you to my love, Rafter! My new birthday photo should be up around april because that is when I expect to have my final make over done by...cross my fingers!

Continuing on with the St. Valentine's Day spirit. Here are some cookies made by elementary school kids for a bake sale. It is really hard to stay away from the bake sales. Especially those rice krispies! I managed to photograph this and run away before i fell into temptation!

P.S. I did not successfully ward of temptation later when i got home and decided to make heart shaped brownies. wahhh.

I am getting married this year! Lots of change. GREAT change. I could not be happier! I am marrying the most amazing, talented, loving, caring, tender, intelligent and incredibly hot man! Thanks for proposing to me Rafter! This month is the anniversary of our engagement and so I thought it fitting for me to shoot our Save the Date photos this month and send them out. I have been dying to share them with people and I have not because...well...i like to be secretive and surprise people. Apparently the theme of birthday number 27 is procrastination. I am finally getting around to it and I am almost 28. GEEZ. GET WITH IT! Someone dangle a burrito in front of me on a stick til I make art. Then and only then can you give it to me:)

Dual Purpose

I love recycling, reusing and re-purposing. I like to use mostly items that i have found in garage sales, in the street in alleys, in thrift stores, craigslist free or any other items people just don't want and are throwing away or just not using and have donated to me. I know our world has a tendency towards the consumerist ways, but since my dad has been a trash man for many years i have been constantly aware of all the unnecessary waste. Growing up economically challenged we had to re-purpose, recycle and reuse our things as well as other peoples donated things. There have been many times while growing up that my dad would bring home electronic items, toys or any number of other things that were perfectly good just not the newest kid on the block. Because of my experiernces I try really hard to not buy new things for my photos and try to get inspiration from things that I already have or things that I can re-purpose.

What does all of this mean! ahhh! so much of me and my thoughts babbling. well, I took some photos of art that children at the art school I work at made. It all includes re-purposed and recycled and reused items. They are pretty rad.

Ringing in the new year

My fiance and I wanted to go dancing to ring in the new year. We have a lot to celebrate in 2009. Most importantly, our wedding. We wanted to go and celebrate and dance til we dropped. We went out all day new years eve and somehow I ended up at a fabric shop (I always end up at a fabric shop). I saw tulle fabric on sale and had to buy it. I decided that a few hours before it was time to go out for new years dancing I would make a dress for myself out of it and wear it out. Mind you I have never sewn anything. I only have a sewing machine cause my grandma bought me one last year because she thought I would like it. So, I taught myself how to sew...kinda:) So, there are a couple of photos of me in the dress and also some from the first sun rise of the year 2009 from the top of mount helix.

K, so I know that I have fallen...yet again...into my procrastination with this blog. I hate it when I do that! I have photo block? Is that something people say? I don't know, but I get it often. Mostly because I doubt myself and also because I am so anal about my photos and the elaborate productions that I cause myself that it is difficult to shoot anything. I also went on a few mini trips and a sweet vacation with a friend to the awesomeness that is Costa Rica. I go on a yearly trip with my friend, Jennifer Chaidez, and it is always awesome raddness! Thanks Jennifer!
